Stephanie Creigh is a 21 year old self-taught artist, based on Gomeroi land, in Tamworth, New South Wales. Creating contemporary Australian landscape artworks from home, inspired by home.
Following the success of her work ‘My Country’, being a part of the Art Express 2022 Exhibition and touring the Art Gallery of New South Wales as well as the Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Centre. Stephanie has been making art full-time, creating commission-based works and selling original artworks via social media for three years now, with her pieces located Australia wide.
Taking on every opportunity given, Stephanie has entered works in various local and volunteer run exhibitions within New South Wales. She has also donated works to help raise funds for the vulnerable in the community. She had works auctioned at the ‘I Made This For You’ event in Newcastle in 2023, to provide meals and essential support, as a part of the Soul Hub campaign.
This year, Stephanie had three works for sale via the ‘Incognito’ Art Show, based in Sydney, with all funds raised going towards supporting artists working with disabilities.
In September 2024, Stephanie held her first solo exhibition at Weswal Gallery in Tamworth. She debuted a series of thirteen works inspired by her travels throughout South Australia. ‘Southern State of Mind’ consisted of nine works created using acrylic paint mixed in gel impasto medium, layered and carved out on bright block backgrounds and four works, as experimentation on paper. The almost sold out exhibition allowed Stephanie’s work to become international - with one work being purchased by an art collector in the United Kingdom.
Applying daubs of acrylic paint, offset by different mark-making created with the end of a paint brush, Stephanie loves to build an array of patterns and textures. Having developed a distinct technique of applying light on dark and dark on light, which contributes to the rich tertiary colour palette and symbolises Australia’s varied landscape.
The emotional connection to the land is supported through Stephanie’s art making.
“My driving motivation for creating landscape artworks is to redefine our relationship with the land.”
“By exaggerating the colours and shape of each landscape, my intention is to create a catalyst of emotion and to both elicit and exchange memories within the viewer.”
