Tara Macphail

I'm a graphic designer by day and artist by night. Ever since learning to hold a brush as a small child, I have loved creating works from my imagination, as well as from real life. I cannot help but conjure up characters for all animate and inanimate forms around me. Lately I find well-fed, affluent cats paw their way into my work... puffy and fluffy, leading decadent secret lives. (I also adore dogs but never feel I can quite do them justice). More broadly, what I want to evoke with my art more than anything else is a cosy and whimsical world to live and delight in - where there's a reassuring sense of balance despite the current tangle you may find yourself in or the greater mess beyond. That things will be OK. If I can make you smile (even just a whisker) with my paintings then I have done my job. My artistic influences include PG Wodehouse, Emily Powell, Louis Wain, Richard Scarry and Eric Ravilious.
