Our future starts today

It was a challenge taking a reference photo of a koala AWAKE, I had to wait for one of the keepers at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to rustle some fresh gum leaves to wake him from his slumber. I do wonder what koalas dream about whilst they sleep most of the day. Probably about the peril their species is under and how their numbers are in decline. In this drawing, I have a whistling duck and a koala looking toward a better future. I can only hope the efforts to save our iconic species is successful so the futures generations get to see them in the wild. This little watercolour pencil piece is on Fabriano paper mounted to a wooden board, varnished and framed ready to hang on your wall.
