Description: Persephone’s Pomegranate is about the story of Persephone being taken by Hades to the Underworld. While she was there the earth began to grow cold and all the green things died. Her mother Demeter demanded from Zeus her daughter back. Before they left the Underworld Hades offered Persephone a pomegranate to eat six pomegranates seeds. As he knew that if anyone ate or drank anything in the Underworld they would be destined to remain there for eternity. Persephone took six seeds and ate them. Hades took Persephone above ground. But because she had eaten six pomegranate seeds, she must return to the underworld to Hades for six months of each year and winter would come to the world. Thus, according to Greek mythology, the seasons were created. It is autumn and winter when Persephone sat on the throne of the Underworld beside Hades. And spring and summer when Persephone is reunited with her mother, Demeter.
