Yin And Yang
Artist: Carol Barnwell
Medium: Acrylic on cotton canvas with floating frame.
Size: 30.5 x 40.5 cm
Framed: Yes
Yin and Yang is a concept that originated in Chinese philosophy, describing opposite but interconnected, mutually perpetuating forces. Male and female, good and bad etc. Yin and yang can be thought of as complementary (rather than opposing) forces that interact to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts (for instance, shadow cannot exist without light). The timeless elegance of ancient Chinese Veil tail goldfish seemed the perfect way to express this concept. As these two goldfish dance, their golden scales are highlighted by the dark background.
