Emily is a still life artist currently living and working in the bayside suburb of Williamstown, Naarm (Melbourne). Her artwork is inspired by nature, life’s simple pleasures and memories of growing up in rural Queensland. She is particularly attracted to the unpretentious charm of Australian native flowers and everyday objects that mark a moment in time or hold special meaning, like an old book or a hand-me-down tea set.
Through her art practice, Emily aims to preserve delicate moments that celebrate the natural world and life’s quiet, simple pleasures. Her work is characterised by precision, fine detail and the use of patterns to draw the eye. Through frequent depictions of old, outdated or vintage objects in her paintings, she hopes to add charm and prompt a deeper reflection on how our lives have changed over the past few decades. This is also an exploration of the remarkable way objects can hold memories, lament the passage of time and reveal much about the people they belong to. Above all, Emily hopes her artwork brightens spaces and connects with viewers in a way that conjures a sense of comfort, nostalgia and delight.
She works predominantly with acrylics on stretched cotton canvas.
