Jane le Dieu was born in Cornwall, UK, and spent her childhood across Canada, the UK, and eventually California, following her father’s service in the Royal Navy. She later moved to Australia, completing her studies at Charles Sturt University before relocating from Nowra, NSW to Canberra, where she worked as an art teacher. After this rewarding chapter, she left both Canberra and teaching for a lifestyle change in Brisbane, choosing part-time work in retail to allow herself meaningful time to return to painting and craft.
Painting has been a lifelong passion for Jane. She was introduced to it as a small child by her paternal grandfather, a talented English pastel artist from Bedford, who nurtured her interest and regularly sent her his smaller drawings from across the globe until his passing.
Her tertiary studies focused on textile design, a discipline that continues to influence her approach to painting through its emphasis on pattern, colour, and light. She draws particular inspiration from the Fauvist painters—especially Matisse—whose loose, expressive use of colour resonates with the lush surroundings and relaxed lifestyle of the Sunshine Coast.
Jane has recently completed a series of quirky still lifes featuring local birds, character homes, beachscapes, and some of the few remaining historic and charming beach shacks.
