Michelle is a landscape painter whose work is deeply informed by the wonder and awe of the ever-changing light in beautiful big skies. Her practice is rooted in memory and intuition, painting atmospheric scenes of light, movement, and feelings of a place. She rarely paints the likeness of a place but rather the essence of a place, a subconscious reaction to something familiar. Whenever she travels she is always collecting memories of colours, mood, light and atmosphere. Sitting on a beach to watch a sunset until the very last hint of light disappears. Always dreaming. Always looking out for awe and the sublime.
She primarily works with acrylics, using expressive marks and delicate glazes with layers to achieve depth and luminosity, evoking the feeling of being within the landscape rather than observing it.
Michelle's sense of romantic drama and imagination is nurtured by travel, music and dance. She is drawn to light and a yearning to be outdoors in wide open spaces, under vast skies. Exploring and witnessing the beauty of nature.
