Claire Skeet is an emerging self-taught artist from Perth, Western Australia. Claire started her artistic pursuits as a child, born to an artist mother and grandmother. She initially expressed her creativity through fashion and design, receiving a diploma in Fashion and Design in 1989. Claire pursued a career in fashion, living and working in Sydney, eventually landing in the bright lights of costume design. She still runs one of Australia’s most loved “stage bikini” businesses, although these days she is leaving more of the day-to-day running to her daughter (so she can paint more). Their designs are seen on fitness and dance stages around the world.
Claire picked up a paintbrush (finally, her mum declared!) in 2020 as a 50th birthday gift to herself. Over the last four years, it has become an obsession. Studying online and in masterclasses with a number of wonderful teachers, Claire has developed a distinct style that strives to be both loose and bold, with obvious brush marks. She has spent a lifetime using bold colours, and this is often reflected in her work—her primary goal being to capture the light and energy of her varied subjects. Working primarily with acrylics, Claire loves the fast pace they provide.
