Robin Wilson’s artistic journey began in childhood, when he saved diligently for his first set of professional paints. A local shopkeeper, inspired by his passion, advised him to “capture every moment—store them like snapshots in your mind.” Though Robin’s early adult life led him across the UK as a musician and teacher, he continued to collect these mental photographs, preserving scenes and memories until he could one day return to painting.

Educated in the UK, Robin showed early promise as an artist. By twelve he was an experienced oil painter, and at thirteen he earned a scholarship to the esteemed Moseley School of Art. He went on to study at Birmingham College of Art (City University) and Shrewsbury College of Art, later gaining teaching qualifications while exhibiting in major London shows, including The Young Contemporaries (1957) and at the RBA Gallery (1960). His work has since been shown across three continents.

Today, Robin’s paintings bring his favourite archived moments to life. Each work invites viewers to reminisce about times gone by, rediscover memories tucked away, and reflect on the small but significant moments that shape their lives.

Robin is represented by Aspire Gallery in Brisbane and is also stocked by Paper Pear Gallery in Wagga Wagga.
Robin regularly exhibits across Australia’s east coast. His recent accolades include winning the Open Prize at the 2023 Aspects Art Show in Goondiwindi, being named a finalist in the Omnia Art Prize in Melbourne, selection as an invited exhibitor for the 2023 Inverell Contemporary Exhibition, and finalist recognition in the inaugural Heart of the Bush Exhibition.

Through his work, Robin continues to honour the “mental snapshots” he has carried with him throughout his life—transforming cherished memories into paintings that celebrate connection, nostalgia, and the beauty of lived experience.
